In dem Ausstellungsprojekt FALSE GROUND CARRIER im Leipziger Kunstraum IDEAL thematisieren die Künstler Timo Herbst und Gregor Peschko in Zusammenarbeit mit Kalas Liebfried in einem gemeinsamen multimedialen Projekt Protest und gesellschaftliche Bewegungen in Bezug zu ihrer medialen Verbreitung. Der Begriff „False Ground" – ursprünglich „Faux Terrain“ – bezeichnet den schmalen Raum zwischen den Betrachter*innen und der Leinwand der Panoramen des 19. Jahrhunderts.
Ausgehend von Filmaufnahmen, die Timo Herbst 2019 während der Proteste in Hongkong machte, greift die gemeinsame Installation mit Gregor Peschko diesen Raum zwischen Ereignis und dessen medialer Rezeption und Sichtbarkeit auf. Im Prozess der Ausstellung inszenierten Peschko und Herbst Projektionen des ursprünglichen Videomaterials in einem abstrakten Panorama und erprobten durch die Kamera Möglichkeiten der physischen Positionierung zu den projizierten Bildern. Die dabei entstandenen Aufnahmen speisen eine mehrkanalige Videoinstallation im IDEAL, welche über diesen Zwischenraum Wege einer Berichterstattung abtastet.Kalas Liebfried entwickelte parallel mit dem gleichen Ausgangsmaterial eine Soundarbeit, die während der Eröffnung beim Radiosender RadioBlau und im IDEAL gespielt wird. FALSE GROUND CARRIER wird damit selbst zu physischen und digitalen Kanälen der Berichterstattung, einem Transit-Raum, einem doppelten Faux Terrain, in dem aktuelle Sicht- und Unsichtbarkeiten des Protests und Leerstellen von Medienverbreitung befragt werden.

In the exhibition project FALSE GROUND CARRIER at IDEAL art space in Leipzig, the artists Timo Herbst and Gregor Peschko, in collaboration with Kalas Liebfried, focus in a joint multimedia project on protest and social movements in relation to their media dissemination. The term "False Ground" - originally "Faux Terrain" - refers to the narrow space between the viewer inside and the canvas of the 19th century panoramas.
Based on film footage taken by Timo Herbst 2019 during the protests in Hong Kong, the joint installation with Gregor Peschko takes up this space between the event and its media reception and visibility. In the process of the exhibition, Peschko and Herbst staged projections of the original video material in an abstract panorama and examined possibilities of physical positioning in relation to the projected images. The resulting images feed a multi-channel video installation at IDEAL, which explores ways of reporting through the setting of this intermediate space. Kalas Liebfried developed parallel with the same source material a sound piece, which will be broadcasted during the opening at the radio station RadioBlau and in the IDEAL. FALSE GROUND CARRIER itself thus becomes a physical and digital channel of media coverage, a transit space, a double faux terrain, in which the current visibility and invisibility of protest and gaps in media distribution are questioned.
